Sean Hopkins. Genuine LeTourneau Legacy.

For instance, Sean Hopkins, Direct of Product Support and Training for LTI Mining Products, is a genuine LeTourneau legacy. His grandfather, Price Stratton, began his career working directly for R.G. LeTourneau in 1947.  These were the days when working at LeTourneau meant living on-site in concrete homes, and calling R.G.’s wife “Mom.”  Sean’s grandfather tells him it was truly like one, big happy family.

As a child, Sean recalls spending many hours with his grandfather on the job. “I was fascinated with the equipment and all the places he traveled,” Sean says.

Gifts under the Christmas tree were often LeTourneau hats and buckles. And his grandfather also treated Sean to a personal plant tour.

Grandpa Price began his career involved in road construction in South America where R.G. had sold LeTourneau construction equipment. He moved back to his hometown of Longview, Texas, and took a position in customer training for the company.

While Sean was in college, Price called and asked if he would like to interview for an open position in the training department.  He did, and was offered the job.  

Sean quickly found that the legendary equipment that began as a brainchild of entrepreneur R.G. LeTourneau lived up to its reputation for reliability. “The LeTourneau equipment, although manufactured decades before, just wouldn’t die,” says Sean.  As a result, he wound up hiring his own grandfather as a contractor to troubleshoot the older LeTourneau machines. “There was so much equipment still running, we needed someone who knew how they worked.”

The legacy of Price Stratton is evident in the work ethic of his grandson, Sean.  After 12 years with LeTourneau, Sean is passing on the legacy -- and the passion for LeTourneau technology -- to his own children. He plans to give his son a personal plant tour when he turns 16.
